Can You Say Freight?

Over the last several years I have been asked "No... Really... Do you do all that stuff?" I respond with the polite yes... roll my eyes and move on. I am not sure anyone can fully grasp the scale of what we do here unless they actually see what we do. Just yesterday a friend asked me what I was doing. It was 6:55 in the morning and as much as I would have loved to have said drinking coffee swinging on the porch with my feet up... that wasn't the answer. It was more like I am up in the rafters propping HUGE bags of peanuts up for later use talking to you like an idiot. Obviously I shouldn't have answered the phone having myself in such a precarious position. Oh well... if I fall whats one more broken bone. Add it to the list. Anyways... to make a long story short we are CONSTANTLY asked if we make our drieds ourself or "is this stuff from China?". Well... folks its NOT from China. Our wares are made right here in Troy MO. and in a partnership with farmers. Basically we take the cast off's that can't be sold to grocery stores or food producers like Ocean Spray. Ever wonder what happens to the pomegranates that Ocean Spray rejects for juice? Well look no further than my front door. Yesterday we took delivery from a farmer who had a ton (literally) of cast off fruit and vegetables. This artichoke has a brown spot, this apple has a blemish, this persimmon has a bad color to it. No problem... we can use it. Waste not want not and lets help out the American farmer in the process. So... having had all these questions over the years I thought I would share with you the scale of what we do to put it in perspective. Remember... this is but one load of produce and we do this all year long. Just wait until I show you the oven pictures. I completely understand the meaning of sweat shop when the ovens are running for days at a time and its 90 degrees outside. Not to mention its 105 in our building. GREAT in the winter time... HORRIBLE in the summer.



While we were moving freight yesterday someone actually stopped and asked us if we were in the "Pie Business". Hmmmm.... Maybe next year. LOL.

Primitiques invites you to attend Primrose Days at the Mill

Primitiques' Primrose Days at the Mill is our Mid-Spring celebration Open House! Primitiques is open to the public as we are now our area's distributor of our goodes and have a wonderful selection of handmades in our showroom.

Primitiques & the many talented artists of the Heron Studios Gallery (aptly named after the HUGE heron that flies up and down this old mill's creek... and the same heron that sits on the peak of our garage and munches on our pond's fish!). The Heron Studios boasts artists of many different mediums, including oil painting, weaving, fiber arts and pottery, to name a few. They are a fun group of artisans and always gracious hosts! We sure hope you can join us! Please rsvp if you intend to come on Friday evening (preview cocktail night) so we can adequately plan our food and light fare menu. Primitiques Featured in Country Samplers' Home Tour 2010!!!

Our dear friends, Bruce & Ruthe Martz, had their home featured in Country Sampler's 2010 Home Tour Edition! We refinished the Martz' kitchen, built a lot of custom cabinets for them & upholstered the furniture featured in this edition. Wanted to share that with you all ;-)

We refinished the Martz' kitchen cabinets to be Primitiqued and built a custom plate cupboard that blends seamlessly with the kitchen remodel. We also created several upholstered make-do's and re-upholstered & repainted the legs of the Black Snowflake Loveseat shown in this magazine. We wish CS had mentioned that the Columbus Corner Cabinet was designed by me, Beth of Primitiques, Ltd. I custom designed that in collaboration with Ruthe Martz so it is truly a collaborative work of friendship and design. We hope you can pick up a copy of CS and see the many pages of unique Primitiques we have to offer you, too!!!

Primitiques to be Featured in Country Business Magazine next month!

We (Bill & Beth of Primitiques) are so excited that we were asked by Country Business Magazine to be their May/June 2010 Vendor Profile! It was a whirl-wind week for us. We got a call last week from the editor of CB, Susan Wagner then, just a couple days later, we had a photo shoot at our mill! One picture is way too funny because the photographer wanted me holding the nail gun in our upholstery room! Look out!!!

We had our interview via telephone on Wednesday and believe the article about us will be in next month’s issue already. Please keep an eye out for it!!!

Primitiques 2010 Catalog is finally Finished!

At last, we've completed our 2010 catalog. we're up to 40 pages! Each year, we add so many new & unique items that it takes Beth forever to finalize the catalog! But, alas, it is done before 2011!!! There is one more item that we will add to this... Our Mercantile Drysink Flat Screen TV Cupboard!... Stay Tuned!
